Occupy JP - We Are the 99%

Occupy JP Meeting

The next planning meeting is Sunday, 6 P.M., at the Farnsworth House in Jamaica Plain.  All are welcome.

Last Meeting:

We had a greating planning meeting in which we discussed the following:

Reports from the previous week:

We heard from those who participated in the St Patrick's Day Peace Parade.  The weather was beautiful, the turnout was great, the crowds were very supportive, and a good time was had by all!

Steve and Joe reported back on the Tax Day planning meeting that was held on Friday and attended by representatives of various social justice groups.  (See Tax Day action, below.)

Discussion of future actions:

MBTA Action on Wednesday, April 4

Occupy JP will participate, along with many other groups, in a protest against fare hikes, service cuts, and layoffs at the MBTA.  The protest will meet at the State Capital at 3pm to protest the MBTA proposals.  A rally will follow at 5pm.  In preparation for this, we will distribute flyers at the following times and locations:

Wednesday, March 28, 8am, Stony Brook T-stop
Thursday, March 29, 6:30-7pm, JP  Forum, First Chuch of JP, 6 Eliot Street
Friday, March 30, 5pm, Green Street T-stop

Flyers can be printed from the website.  (Go to occupyjp.org/The People's Printing Press.)  We encourage everyone to join us for flyering and then for the rallies on April 4.

Steve will send a press release to the JP Gazette.

Tax Day Action on Tuesday, April 17

Occupy JP will participate, along with many other groups, in a protest against the unfairness of the current tax regime, where people such as Mitt Romney pay at rates far lower than those earning far less, and Warren Buffet's now-famous secretary pays at a higher rate than Warren Buffet.  The Rally will begin at 5:30pm at Dewey Square (South Station).  The march will begin a 6pm at Dewey Square and march a short route by several corporate tax dodgers and end up at the Commons.  We plan to participate, but we will begin flyering after the April 4 MBTA Action.  Several flyers have now been posted on the occupyjp website
(occupyjp.org/The People's Printing Press).

Potluck dinner and party on Saturday, April 14

Occupy JP will be hosting a potluck dinner and party at Aria's house in Jamaica Plain.  More details later.

Outreach and organization

We discussed how better to organize our organization.  We noted that many people may be willing to participate in actions or in flyering for actions, but have little interest in attending planning meetings.  We each agreed to try to identify five such people.  The idea is that if we each had such a group, then after the planning meeting, we could each mobilize our groups to action.

We also discussed a recent JP Gazette article on Occupy JP.  Joe will write a letter-to-the-editor in response.
